A meteoric rise beyond belief, Carlos Alcaraz knocks out Rafael Nadal & Novak Djokovic in consecutive days to book his place in the Madrid final

Not many teenagers get a standing ovation at a Masters 1000 event let alone two on the bounce. His name was continuously sung around the Caja Magica and Spain has seen the coming of age of the incredible Carlos Alcaraz.

The teenager has become the first player to defeat Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in consecutive days and rounds at a clay court event.

This kid gets better and better, the level of tennis and his mentality on court is flawless, if you could bottle it you’d sell it for thousands.

Twelve months ago on his 18th birthday he played against Rafael Nadal losing 2-6 1-6 at the Madrid Open, days after his 19th birthday he has now defeated Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in three set matches and is through to Sunday night’s final.

What he has done these last two days has been simply outrageous on Friday he won 6-2 1-6 6-3 vs Rafael Nadal and on Saturday won 6-7 7-5 7-6 vs Novak Djokovic.

There is a lot to like about his game, he plays without fear, with power and quite incredible skill. How his game has evolved over 12 months from when he was a wildcard in Madrid to now is meteoric.

He was ranked at 120 in the world when he made his debut here 12 months ago, he is No.6 now. Since then he has:

> W at Umag
> QF at US Open
> SF at Indian Wells
> W at Rio Open
> W at Miami
> W at Barcelona

10 wins against the top ten, 7 of them in 2022 and goes into the Madrid final with 26 wins to 3 defeats in the season.

I could talk about his game all day, there is soo much to enjoy.

> Forehand up the line
> Backhand down the line & cross court
> Drop shot
> Kick serve out-wide

To have such amazing weapons this early on his career is astonishing, he has only just turned 19 a few days ago.

I’ve written about this guy a few times and his sublime game…

If you love tennis you love Carlos Alcaraz.
