Emma Raducanu & Andy Murray to play in Sydney before returning to Melbourne for the Australian Open

Emma Raducanu and Andy Murray have both spent time in Melbourne but before they kick off their respective Australian Open campaigns they will both play in Sydney.

Emma Raducanu vs Iga Swiatek

Emma will be debuting in Melbourne in due course but first a busy draw in Sydney sees the British number one up against Iga Swiatek who is a former champion and a recent semi-finalist in Adelaide.

This will be a tough match for Emma, her first of the season having pulled out of a Melbourne warm-up event following her recovery from Covid-19 when she tested positive in Dubai. It will be a fascinating match, all eyes will be on it but it’s just about going out and playing your game and I think it is important for fans and media to remember that and not jump if Emma doesn’t win.

Iga is a strong player, she played well in Adelaide, she lost 2-6 4-6 to Barty but didn’t play bad at all, Barty was on another level and I think Iga will want to use this week in Sydney to try some things and open up her game more.

Andy Murray vs...

At this point we know it will be a qualifier or lucky loser. I think Andy will be disappointed with the way his time in Melbourne ended at the first hurdle against Facundo Bagnis who almost upset Grigor Dimitrov as well.

It was the first match of the season and far from a time to panic and Andy will know that, this week in Sydney is important, he will want some wins under his belt and to go into Melbourne on the back off a good week.

Andy has been in Sydney for some days now, he linked up as a supporter for Team GB in the ATP Cup and has been doing some sightseeing, the only sight he wants now is a win!
