6-4 6-0, Paula Badosa fights back from 2-4 against Aryna Sabalenka winning 10 games in a row

Top seed Aryna Sabalenka was in control for the opening 35 minutes, the Belarusian brought her big hitting tennis to the courts in Guadalajara.

Even at 4-2 40-30 when the world number two double faulted little did we expect what happened to happen.

Little did I expect having broken the Spaniard in the sixth game that would be that for Aryna Sabalenka. What was a strong performance in the way she hit the ball and moved Badosa around the court became messy quite quickly.

In my preview I said I felt there was pressure on Aryna as the top seed but at times she can be the architect of her own downfall. Momentum can swing a lot in tennis and that seventh game was monumental for both ladies.

Sabalenka screamed as two forehands went into the net and well wide respectively giving the Spaniard a way in. In the next three games Paula dropped four points to take the opener 6-4.

As Sabalenka opened the second set you could hear the murmurs in the crowd as the errors kept coming following good returning from Badosa. The opening break of serve was sealed by a wild double fault and a fifth straight game for Badosa.

How quickly it went from being in control to fighting to stay in the match with those five set points missed in the first set clearly in her mind.

Down a set and a break of serve the top seed made some good moves on the Badosa serve but couldn’t seal the set point as Paula consolidated her break, steadied the ship and finished winning ten games in a row.

Saturday will be another big match for both, suddenly we have Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka fighting to stay in the competition and Maria Sakkari and Paula Badosa leading the line.
