Novak Djokovic wins a 6th Paris title and record 37th Masters 1000 title

Before this week he hadn’t been seen since his defeat in New York and the questions coming into Paris were, has he recovered and will he go to Melbourne?

Well, we now know the answer to the latter as the world number one has prepared for Turin in formidable fashion winning his 37th Masters 1000 title (stand alone record) and his semi-final win over Hubert Hurkacz sealed a stand alone record as year end number one for a seventh year.

It seems like every time he steps on court he is writing history, rivalries aside how can you see past Djokovic as the greatest male player of all time?

His week in Paris saw him come down from a set twice and only one two set win over Taylor Fritz in the quarter finals.

R1 – Bye
R2 – 6-2 4-6 6-3 vs Fucsovics
R3 – Walkover (Monfils)
QF – 6-4 6-3 vs Fritz
SF – 3-6 6-0 7-6 vs Hurkacz
F – 4-6 6-3 6-3 vs Medvedev

It hasn’t been easy and to come from a set down in the last two matches having not played for a couple of months is a credit to his character, strength and work during this break. It has been one of those weeks from Djokovic where he has got better as the week went on and some of his groundstrokes against Medvedev were menacing. Coming into the final I did worry for Novak against Daniil on this slow court but he has reminded everyone at the top of the game who is number one and the numbers show this…

Novak Djokovic records:

Grand Slams – 20 (joint 1st)
Masters 1000 titles – 37
Top 10 wins – 227
Year End No.1 – 7Ā
Weeks as No.1 – 346
Wins over No.1 – 27

  1. Was hoping for Meddy to come through but I guess there is no stopping the Djoker train once it hits full speed on the track
