Andy Murray has been in America for a few weeks for his first singles action since Wimbledon and with a few weeks still to go, what has happened so far and what’s around the corner?
Andy in Cincinnati…
A positive week for Andy in Cincinnati which ended after the second round but plenty to build on but first in practice he wasn’t too happy with Jamie Delgado’s placement… 😉
Andy opened up his campaign against a player he knows too well in Richard Gasquet who he faced at the event in 2019 when he returned to tennis.
The tennis the Brit produced was soo good to watch, some of it was watching Murray of old rolling back the years as he won 6-4 6-4 against the Frenchman.
With a smile at the end ☺️
In the next round the Brit lost to the impressive Hubert Hurkacz who won Miami this year and beat Federer at Wimbledon, the Pole won 7-6 6-3 to see off Andy.
Andy’s time in Cincinnati wasn’t done there with some banter with press…
Some compliments for Ash Barty despite her not playing doubles with the Brit…
A “fun fact” from Cincinnati, Andy was the only member of the ATP Finals from 2016 to have played at Cincinnati this year.
Andy in Winston Salem
Andy has been in Winston Salem the last few days and will be kicking off his week in South California on Sunday night at midnight UK time against a good friend of his, Nick Kyrgios.
They have faced each other before and Nick has been super vocal in the past of his support and admiration for Murray in what is set to be another interesting watch!
New York and Indian Wells?
With withdrawals and probably further expected withdrawals the Brit and former US Open champion won’t need a wildcard for both events.
He will play singles but there is a question of whether we could see him in the doubles to get some more time on the court under his belt.
After America? We will have to wait and see…
