It is one of the shocks of the year as Dan Evans has inflicted the first defeat in Novak Djokovic’ 2021 season with a 4-6 5-7 defeat to the British number one.
Dan set out his intentions right away, the Brit was on the front foot as he raced to a 3-0 lead over the world number one who was broken in his opening game against Sinner too.
As he did yesterday we did see Novak settle and get on the board and claim back one break of serve. Novak did find himself level at 4-4 but another wayward game saw him broken with Evans serving for the set.
It was a quick route to set point from 5-4 up for the British number one but it did take some getting over the line as Evans sealed the set on his third set point.
How does a world number one react? With an early break which saw the Serb mirror the opening set scoreline but led 3-0 this time around. The sloppiness from Djokovic continued as he was pegged back but on serve stayed ahead.
Despite the twist and turns of the match it looked like going to three sets as the 2013 champion saw a crucial set point but squandered it and at that point was close to a shock conclusion!
Dan continued to do his bit exceptionally well and broke the Serb at ease before holding nerve and hold serve to pass Djokovic at the net to win the biggest match of his career against Novak Djokovic.
