Carlos Alcaraz stuns David Goffin to claim his biggest win to date!

Twelve months at the age of sixteen the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz made his ATP debut in Rio de Janeiro. He defeated fellow Spaniard Albert Ramos Vinolas in three sets 7-6 4-6 7-6 last 3 hours and 36 minutes.

Carlos is ranked at 146 in the world coming into Melbourne having qualified for a Grand Slam for the first time in his career and in his pre-Australian Open warm-up has shown great promise and excitement ahead of his Grand Slam debut.

His match on Tuesday didn’t go to plan but he did find his way through quite quickly as his opponent Balazs retired at 2-2 seeing the Spaniard through to round two up against a tough player in David Goffin.

I like David Goffin a lot and I like his game a lot but he was absolutely picked apart by the seventeen year old. Goffin gave the Spaniard huge credit after the match saying “he just killed me.”

You wouldn’t have been surprised to see some nerves from a teenager playing just his second main draw event but is at it once again!

He broke immediately in the match having held his first game and didn’t look back as he raced to a 4-2 having squander a break but recovered quickly breaking the Belgian to love.

The second set was once again a similar copy to the first as Carlos found a lead and never looked back keeping the top seed on the back-foot and winning an impressive 16 of 22 points behind the Belgian’s second serve and won 16 more points in the entire match.

Carlos was named as the ATP Newcomer of the Year for 2020 and he has certainly made his mark in 2021 so far!
