No Rafa? No Problem! Spain leave Australia with a mountain to climb at the ATP Cup

A match between Rafael Nadal and Alex de Minaur for the third year running in Australia got pulled at the eleventh hour ahead of Spain and Australia meeting in the ATP Cup once again!

The news that Rafael Nadal had to sit out due to his back would have brought a bit of a smile to the hosts hoping to make the semifinals and better this year but it will have to be the hard way for them!

Roberto Bautista Agut is such a strong competitor and stepping up as the top player for Spain is not an issue for the Agut who from a set down beat the Aussie number one Alex de Minaur 4-6 6-4 6-4 in a match he’ll be gutted to lose having started his season with a title in Turkey.

Despite the defeat for Australia’s number one he did still produce one of the points of the tournament…

Stepping into singles action was also Pablo Carreno Busta and he has proven over the years to be an exceptionally high singles player and with a 6-2 6-4 win got Spain off to a good start in the day.

The domination was completed in the doubles as Carreno Busta and Granollers won 6-4 7-5 against Peers and Saville to seal the tie 3-0 and leaving Australia with plenty of work to do!

Australia do now have a mountain to climb and it isn’t going to be an easy tie against Greece as their campaign in the ATP Cup could be over before it’s barely begun which is the nature of the ATP Cup.
