Stan Wawrinka and Magnus Norman split after 8 years!

The partnership of Stan Wawrinka and Magnus Norman has been one of the most successful partnerships in tennis over the last 8 years but it has come to an end.

Since Magnus joined Stan’s team the Swiss star has gone from strength to strength winning three majors and turning the big four into the big five in mens tennis.

Between the two the partnership hit off straight away, Stan finished the year ranked inside the top ten in the world for the first time in his career and with that was a debutant at the ATP Finals in London in 2013.

Everything just clicked for Stan and Magnus, at the 2013 US Open he defeated defending champion Andy Murray and in 2014 defeated the defending Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic showing this big match mentality.

It was at the Australian Open where we saw more of the big match mentality. Not only did he beat Djokovic in five sets winning 9-7 in the fifth but also won against Berdych in the semi-finals and then beat Nadal in four sets to win his first major final at Melbourne Park!

From there Stan went onto win his only Masters 1000 title in Monte Carlo that year, Davis Cup at the end of the year and in 2015 won of course the French Open and then the US Open in 2016.

Quite incredibly in major finals against the world number one he holds a win/loss record of 3-0 but in other matches has a win/loss record of 1/20 that one win against Murray in the 2017 semi-final at Roland Garros.

It will be interesting to see where Stan does go next with his coaching team and also where Magnus Norman goes next. Some rumours say he would work well with Tsitsipas but would Patrick and Stefanos’ Dad Aspostolos take a back seat role?
