The Overrule

Tennis is well and truly back, a lot is going out in the tennis world following a return to Grand Slam tennis in New York as well as the continuation of the resumption of the ATP and WTA tour in Europe but what has been happening?

Kei Nishikori returns in Kitzbuhel

After a year and having to miss Cincinnati and the US Open due to a positive Covid-19 test it was good to see Kei back playing again but it wasn’t as long as he hoped for.

Kei was the sixth seed and lost to young Serb Miomir Kecmanovic from a set up and in the doubles with Nishioka lost 2-6 3-6 too.

Stan visits Juan!

Sad news from a week or so ago is that Juan Martin Del Potro has undergone surgery on his knee for a third time in just over 18 months but it was great to see Stan go and visit Juan in hospital following his surgery!

Roland Garros to welcome fans, Rome not so!

Despite the ever growing number of cases in France including a day of over 10,000 in just over a weeks time the organisers at Roland Garros have confirmed plans to welcome 11,500 fans a day on site which is about 35,000 less than you’d expect on a normal day but still right with around 90,000 new cases in two weeks it seems too many.

Before a trip to Roland Garros there is Rome where there will not be fans this year. Italy which was the epi-centre of Covid-19 in Europe to begin with will be welcoming tennis but not with fans this year.

Sascha Bajin and Dayana Yastremska split!

This partnership between Sascha and Dayana has had it all.

Dayana put herself in the spotlight following a poorly advised photoshoot she did and then the drama on court followed when Sascha praised the performance of Naomi Osaka who beat Yastremska and well she wasn’t happy about it…

Surprisingly, its now over.

Rafa, Stan, Gael & Elina arrive in Rome, Halep on route!

They might have been in New York for the return of tennis but Rafael Nadal, Gael Monfils, Elina Svitolina and Stan Wawrinka have been practicing in Rome ahead of the second Masters 1000 event.

Rafa and Stan were seen practicing together:

Simona Halep who won in Prague will be continuing her Roland Garros preparations in Rome and is on her way.

ATP add events to calendar, WTA still short

The ATP have announced more events have been added to the 2020 calendar with 14 events over a 9 week period to take place from next week.

Two events in Cologne and one in Sardinia and Nur-Sultan have been announced and will take on a rating of ATP 250.

There is still hope the WTA follow suit with just 4 events left on the calendar and 3 still waiting to be announced following the cancellation of the entire Asian swing including the tour finals in Shenzhen. One tournament has been added in the Czech Republic.
