15 to 1, will anyone stop the only remaining former Grand Slam champion left?

As the week at Flushing Meadows has gone on former champions have also gone. Roger, Rafa, Stan and Juan weren’t here to begin with, Andy Murray performed a Houdini act to escape defeat to Nishioka but Felix Auger-Aliassime proved too much for the returning Brit and Marin Cilic who won in 2014 lost to Dominic Thiem leaving just one man left.

Novak Djokovic.

Novak Djokovic has 17 Grand Slam titles, the other fifthteen left at Flushing Meadows have none so will it be one of the fifteen or the number one?

There is a lot of good news for Djokovic who is on a 26 match winning streak in 2020 and looks unstoppable. Stefanos Tsitsipas was in his half of the draw but got knocked out by Borna Coric.

Daniil Medvedev and Dominic Thiem have proved slightly problematic for the Serb over the last year winning four of eight encounters but both are on the other side of the draw.

Pablo Carreno Busta stands in his way of a 27th win a row, the Spaniard has been in very good form including a doubles title in Cincinnati last week! Shapovalov or Goffin will await the winner in the final eight with Sascha Zverev a potential semi-final opponent.

The bottom half of the draw is fascinating as someone will make the final, 2019 runner-up Daniil Medvedev could like another shot but there is tough competition in Berrettini who was a semi-finalist last year and Thiem, Rublev and the impressive Alex de Minaur, Felix Auger-Aliassime and the surprising runs of Frances Tiafoe and Vasek Pospisil who have caused some upsets.

All eyes will be on Djokovic and he is used to this pressure. It will be a big test for him still but who could cause a genuine upset and could we see a new Grand Slam winner for the first time since the 2014 US Open when Marin Cilic defeated Kei Nishikori?
