Following Grigor Dimitrov’s three set win over Dusan Lajovic, more excitement was anticipated as Damir Dzumhur took on Dominic Thiem.
Unfortunately for Damir serving at 15-15 he landed awkwardly hurting his groin and down 0-2 to Dominic Thiem and after a medical time-out he retired from the match.
It led to a slight delay in proceedings but Djokovic and Troicki arrived to get the third match of the opening day underway.
Victor Troicki showed his intentions from the start hitting a lovely forehand service return winner but at deuce a big serve got the world number one out of trouble in an event with a no-ad ruling meaning at deuce it is either a break point or game point.
After a hold of serve apiece the world number one began to flex his muscles and even brought out the drop shot from the back of the court as he raced to a 4-1 lead.
At this point and down a break in the second set Troicki had enough and gave the racket to a ball kid who did a great job!
After a small break for Troicki it did give him some momentum to hold serve but trail a break at 2-1.
The drop shot continued to derail Troicki who picked the ball up and smashed it at him in laughter after another winner!
Novak continued in his usual dominance and once again brought out that drop shot from the baseline on route to a 4-1 4-1 win.
Whether you see it as it or not, Djokovic is still undefeated in 2020…
