Reliable Roberto unbeaten at ATP Cup as he begins his season in perfect fashion!

Roberto Bautista Agut is Mr Reliable.

There seems to be something about the month of January that brings out the very best in the Spaniard. Four of his last seven titles on the tour have some in the month of January and last year made the quarter finals in Melbourne for the first time.

What you see is what you get from Roberto Bautista Agut. Clever, hard working and as I said reliable.

It’s been quite the journey over the last year or so. The Spaniard ended up missing his bachelor party due to his run at Wimbledon but his friends still went along to enjoy.

There was some sad news for Agut last year as he lost his father during the Davis Cup Finals in Madrid. At this point many would have expected him to end his run there. He came back a day after and won his match on route to Spain winning the first of the new Davis Cup Finals.

As the years have gone by Roberto has become a more prominent figure on the ATP tour. He has secured his career high ranking of 9 once again with his 100% record in ATP Cup:

6-0 6-0 v Metreveli
6-1 6-2 v Roncandelli
6-2 6-4 v Soeda
6-1 6-4 v Coppejans
6-1 6-4 v Kyrgios
7-5 6-1 v Lajovic

No sets dropped at all by the Spaniard who has been a great watch once again. If anything over the last year or so he has been that player ranked outside the top bracket that you just want to avoid.

Novak Djokovic twice last year came up stuck against the Spaniard who once he is locked in is a difficult player to shift.

If anything you could argue that he has more valuable for Team Spain in the ATP than Rafael Nadal. If Agut hadn’t of beaten Coppejans then Spain would have gone home.
