World number one Ash Barty is through to the semi-finals of the WTA Finals.
A comfortable 6-4 6-2 victory for the Australian in a dominating performance from the debutant who will end the year as number one in the world no matter what happens here.
It was another match where the performance from Petra Kvitova was pretty worrying in what was a difficult end to a difficult season for the former Wimbledon champion.
Take nothing away from Ash Barty though she showed us her clever all-court game and the thing she did the most which caused issues for Petra was she continued to get the ball into play.
That was the problem, Kvitova ran out of ideas. Barty got to every ball and used her slice really well during the match to take any pace away from the Czech number two.
There was a point during the match at the change over where Kvitova put her head in her towel and was visibly upset.
Ash’ performance aside it was quite uphill for Kvitova who lets not forget was a set away from winning a Grand Slam title and getting hold of world number one ranking.
I do think there is still a bit of rustiness to shake off in her game after some injury and inconsistency issues this season and despite some good results over the last couple of months there is still that ruthless streak missing.
From missing that ruthless streak to someone with a ruthless streak right now. Ash Barty hasn’t looked like slowing down. She has had some tough results since winning in Paris and Birmingham but of late is looking strong again.
