Heather Watson back in the top 100 after impressive run in Tianjin!

Heather Watson’s season has ended on a high.

The Brit has put herself back in contention for a main draw spot at the Australian Open next year when the entrants list is out in December.

A run to the final somewhere she hasn’t been on the tour for 43 months has propelled her 37 places on the WTA Rankings from 125 in the world back up to 88 and if she can stay there for the first few weeks of 2020 will be getting into big tournaments.

It wasn’t meant to be for Heather who has never lost a WTA Final on her three previous occasions but came unstuck against the very good Swede, Rebecca Peterson.

Rebecca likewise has never lost a WTA Final but only featured in and won her first last month did the 24 year old who will crack the top 50 for the first time on Monday at 44.

Heather’s best result was against second seed Qiang Wang dropping just three games against her but had to fight super hard against Magda Linette in three gruelling sets.

This does mean that the wait for a British singles title winner goes on. The last one was  Kyle Edmund in Antwerp twelve months ago next week.

News on Kyle from today, he took a last minute wildcard into qualifying as the top seed in Antwerp and lost to the world number 126 in round one.

Dan Evans has also been in the headlines as he is to work with Kyle Edmunds old coach.
