Unmatched brilliance! Rafael Nadal wins his 12th French Open title!

For an incredible twelfth time it is Rafa’s day in Paris.

A valiant effort from Dominic Thiem who has had another incredible journey at Roland Garros wasn’t enough to budge Nadal today.

No one on the tour would have done better against Rafa today.

These two were absolutely relentless today. It was so good especially in the first two sets and there wasn’t much to split them but a bit of a wild service game from Dominic Thiem which set Nadal in good stead to take the first.

The reaction from the Austrian was what you would expect. He held his nerve so well and his tennis matched the greatest to ever step foot on a clay court as he broke very late to take the second set 7-5.

Nadal disappeared off court and came back like a man on a mission.

He went onto win 9 of the next 10 games and the tennis was a joke. We sit here and wax lyrical about his forehand which is undoubtedly one of the best shots in tennis but likewise his backhand was disgusting brilliant.

Dominic Thiem can come away knowing that he left everything out there today.

At 0-3 0-40 down in the fourth set he didn’t give up and Dominic always leaves it out there. He reeled off five points in a row on serve to get a hold of serve on the board.

You have to credit Dominic Thiem, he kept plugging away and can walk-away from here knowing that no one would have come closer to beating Rafa today.

The numbers are just remarkable.

12 titles
93 wins
2 defeats

This man is just relentless.
