Hats off 🎩
It’s a shame that someone has to go home after a match like that but it was Benoit Paire who advanced to the third round after this thrilling encounter between the two Frenchman but credit to Pierre-Hugues Herbert for a valiant effort.
I can’t sit here and give a ball by ball account of what happened because I was so engaged with the emotion, drama and the pure brilliance of these two.
Benoit Paire was champion in Lyon last week and is now on a 7 match winning streak in Paris where I think it’s fair to say it has been a love/hate relationship with the French crowd but is feeling the love right now!
Benoit Paire looked like sealing this quite comfortable leading 6-2 6-2 but didn’t expect at this point he would get over the line after 4 hours and 33 minutes.
Credit to Pierre, he didn’t know he was beaten against Medvedev coming from two sets down to defeat the twelfth seed and levelling up against his countryman before Paire broke to take the match, 6-2 6-2 5-7 6-7 11-9.
A truly fun and entertaining game of tennis. For me, this is what this major is about. Watching it growing up it’s always stood ahead of the rest for amazing and passionate tennis with some of the most incredible and engaged crowds.
We saw flair, variety and at the end of a day a big hug at the end!
