Whatever happens from here on in Grigor Dimitrov can walk away from Roland Garros with his head held high.
In round one he led Tipsarevic by two sets and slipped up and recovered in the 5th set to advanced to a much needed win but this win against Marin Cilic felt like a more important win for the Bulgarian.
I love Dimitrov and his tennis has suffered of late but his personality hasn’t changed.
He wears his heart on his sleeve and I think he’s great for tennis because people will say he’s underachieved in his career but for me that’s harsh because he always gives his all.
Not just once but twice he trailed by a set against Marin Cilic and when your confidence isn’t as high as you’d expect but he never gives in and to come through former top 10 player Tipsarevic and a player in Marin Cilic who has had a rough season is a great credit.
A very impressive performance on a whole from Grigor, he had match points and wasted them but got his reward breaking the Cilic served at 5-3 to take the match and I was so concerned about the prospect of him serving for the match at 5-4.
It doesn’t get easier for Grigor as next up is Stan Wawrinka who has been impressive so far but Grigor is fully focused on this!
