Dominic Thiem is at it again.
For the third year running he has defeated Rafael Nadal on clay. Dominic Thiem has firmly lay down the standards following his classy composed performance.
He brought sexy tennis to the court. Clay court tennis is all about variety and my god didn’t he show us his full repertoire today.
It is frustrating in the picture of the whole season as we only really see the very best of Thiem on the clay but today was just perfect.
He played with intent from the first ball. He served big and strolled around that baseline so dominantly really finding the angles with the forehand and the backhand down the line was perfect.
The biggest test for the Austrian came at 6-4 5-4 when he was serving for the match but found himself down 0-40 on serve which were the first break points Rafa in the match and the style he saved them in was incredible and the nerve he showed to come back from that position in the game with the crowd obviously in Rafa’s favour was special.
Next up for Dominic is a final tomorrow against a strong and hard to knock Daniil Medvedev.
