Win No. 850 and it was a big one!

Novak Djokovic is just about through to the third round in Monte Carlo. The win down on the coast was his 850th in his career and it was a big one.

Now you may look at the win and think well he defeated Kohlschreiber in three sets but we know that he is capable of and pulled it off against Novak not long ago where he really got under the skin of the number one but today was Novak’s day.

It was far from vintage from the Serb but it was a job done performance which is what he needed after being dealt such a tricky card in the first round for him. Next up? Schwartzmann.

This is going to be a testing week for Novak and I don’t think it is imperitive that he wins the title but if he did with the potential path he has would be one hell of an achievement and would set a big marker for the clay court season.

Novak could potentially play Tsitipas, Thiem and Rafa if he is to lift the title for a second time in Monte-Carlo and de-thrown Rafa.

We haven’t seen Novak’s best yet since he won in Melbourne but right now I wouldn’t say it is a worry, if the run of form and the lack of ruthlessness does continue here in Monte-Carlo for as long as he is on site as well as in Madrid and Rome then serious questions will be asked but for the man who has won the last three majors the expectations are higher.
