I reported it over a week ago and people were surprised but Serena Williams is set for Rome.
The four time former champion is expected to play a Roland Garros warm-up for the first time since 2016 when she won in Rome but still no show in Madrid with her last appearance being in 2015 when she made the semi-finals there.
Indian Wells and Miami were Serena’s only tournament since her run in Melbourne but unfortunately had to retire from Indian Wells injured and then withdrew from Miami with another injury.
Serena made the 4th round at Roland Garros last year without a warm-up as she goes in search of that 24th Grand Slam title and the hope is that Rome will give her a good run before the second major of the year.
The entry lists got posted with Serena on and her coach Patrick Mouratoglou has also confirmed that this is the plan going forward.
We haven’t seen Serena on court yet but Rome doesn’t begin until the 6th of May when qualifying begins so we won’t probably see her until around 13th of May following the conclusion of Madrid!
