Whilst the war of words between some of the men of Australian Tennis stole the headlines over the two weeks at Melbourne Park there was plenty to shout about for the Australian’s and here is who did their talking on the court.
A very good run by Ash. I was there for her performance against Maria Sakkari and the crowd was bouncing. She performed extremely well and we saw that once again as she came up against Sharapova and dispatched the five time major champion in three sets.
The Australian did fall to Petra Kvitova who was in a ruthless streak on her way to the final there. If I had one complaint it was the ‘BartyArmy’. I’m up for bands of fans creating atmosphere like the Greek fans did but being sponsored to do it seems a little cheap to me, but that’s my opinion…
Court 3 at Melbourne Park made some noise.
Alex Bolt returned to tennis after time off and what a performance he put on against Gilles Simon to win in 5 sets.
I sadly wasn’t there for this one but the next day I was at Melbourne Park and saw a mass crowd by one of the practice courts with Australian’s flooding over to see him practice and he even invited some kids on to practice with him!
A true good story of the open!
Alex De Minaur
I was happy to see De Minaur live.
He connected so well with the crowd who equally love him. The talk on the train to Melbourne Park daily was all about this man.
I was pleased to see him play Nadal live and I got to see the extent of his movement in real life which was exceptional and despite as well as he played Nadal was exceptional.
This is just another chapter in his incredible story so far…
Probably the best way to finish the open.
Runner-up with Lisa Raymond in 2006 after wasting match points in the doubles final. 13 years later the experienced Australian finally won the doubles title in Melbourne to take her Grand Slam career total to 7.
A true champion of our sport who continues to fight as she loves the game.
