ATP World Tour Finals – Semi-Finals Preview

8 have now become 4. Off goes Dominic Thiem, Kei Nishikori, Marin Cilic and John Isner to begin their off season. For Novak Djokovic, Kevin Anderson, Roger Federer and Alex Zverev the week is still alive.

Over the coming days 4 will become 2 and then as the Spice Girls say, 2 becomes 1 but before we think that far ahead we have the semi-finals to contend with.

So, what to expect?

Alex Zverev v Roger Federer

This has the possibility to be a classic but on the weeks performances so far this could be a disaster.

I think the quality outside of Djokovic and Anderson this week has been below par and these two have been.

Zverev has looked a little fed up and this whole ‘tired’ story that came out after his defeat the other day to Djokovic is just frustration. Was he tired in his win against Isner today? I’m not too sure.

Zverev has linked up with Ivan Lendl for the last few months and he is here in London as well but is he getting through to the German at the moment? We know Ivan can have a laugh as we saw with Andy Murray but he runs a no-nonsense camp and with all the noise coming out of Zverev won’t bother him too much.

Federer has looked flat, he hasn’t been happy with the surface or the way he has played. I think he’s laboured through the week after he lost to Kei Nishikori in the first match of the week which seems so long ago now.

Who will win? I don’t know, I haven’t been convinced by either player over the week.

Kevin Anderson v Novak Djokovic

These two have been a delight.

It is a shame that one of them has to go home.

These two have played the best tennis this week without doubt, they have been that good.

Novak is playing like vintage Novak and stopping him will be the big challenge and I’m not sure with the greatest respect whether that will happy this weekend.

Kevin continues to impress. I like how he has made people think more about the way he plays and ditched that ‘big guy, big serve’ stereotype and still I believe doesn’t get the respect he deserves.

Who will progress?

It has to be Novak!
