Star of the show Svitolina strikes again to take Singapore title!

Elina Svitolina has done it. The second half of the season you could say was a write off for the Ukranian and then she came to Singapore.

No expectations, no pressure and probably lacking in confidence but this is completely against what happened. The performances were stunning since Day 1 of the championships.

I love watching Eli play, I first saw her at Roland Garros four years ago and was lucky enough to see meet her in Birmingham this year and she was so down to earth and humble.

If you asked me to talk about the ‘best’ of players’ games I could but with Eli I haven’t really felt that we’ve ever been in a situation where over a consistent period of time during a tournament where we have had to see her really pushed but this week we did.

If I think back to how she has performed in her matches early on in the week against Kvitova she set out her stall quite quickly and it was something I spoke about how impressive she was and aggressive but being able to control that aggression is something else which she did so well!

In her matches against Wozniacki, Pliskova, Kiki and Sloane in today’s final they have all gone to three sets and had to come from a set down twice and it is so impressive the strength in her game and mentally we have seen this week, her level has never dropped.

A set down against Sloane today and she wasn’t fazed at all by it, she was so locked in and on the ball it was so good to see. I don’t think and can remember a tournament all year where a player has been so impressive on the baseline from the beginning to the end especially at a tournament like this with the intensity of the week.
