Buzarnescu 6-0 6-3 Swan – Mihaela too good as Brit’s tournament comes to an end.

Mihaela Buzarnescu is safely through to the third round of Wimbledon on her first appearance. The Romanian who is ranked top 30, seeded here at Wimbledon is at a career high with her performances this year and her rise up the rankings following years of injuries.

From the first few moments of the match she just didn’t let go holding the first game before going on to break which she did three times in the opening set as she took it 6-0!

The second set the Romanian was broken by the Brit who to her credit despite being bagel’d in set one never dropped out and that is big for someone so young and inexperienced at this level following her first Grand Slam win on Monday.

Katie did play well in the second set, we began to see her relax a little more and had that attitude of I’m here to play and the crowd got behind her when she broke back with some lovely backhands up the line and that inside out forehand taking any chance away from Buzarnescu which was key!

Despite the position she was in during the match the frustration seen from Buzarnescu after being broken was surprising something we have never seen before from the Romanian who usually is so locked in but it showed how much she wanted it.

Mihaela once again was impressive. When she is able to hit that two handed backhand from anywhere on the court you know that danger is coming for the opponent she just has no fear when she goes for it and is so effective at painting the baseline with it making opponents life hell!

It shouldn’t just be seen as a loss for Katie but an experience to learn from which I hope she does after picking up her first Wimbledon win but also things she has taken away from the defeat today.
