Back in September of last year I wrote a piece about Kristina Mladenovic. At this point she was on a 7 match losing streak and lost a match in Tokyo 6-0 6-0
This year she snapped a 15 match losing streak and in life we are quick to criticise but slow to praise and I called it a relief.
This week at WTA Birmingham I saw Kiki everyday without fail and this is why I’m praising her!
I watched her in singles lose but from a set up against Rybarikova who went on to make the final, hours laters she’s back on the practice court hours later! Respect!
I watched her and Timea the next day in the doubles, once they left the court after their win she was back out practicing again, Respect!
There were days when Kiki I saw her out there twice practicing and even during those tough times and now in that stage of playing doubles and trying to push that singles ranking where it belongs she works really hard!
We have too many sour stories in sport and life but a lesson learnt on not wasting time or opportunity and to be doubles champion alongside Timea in Birmingham isn’t down to luck but down to the work she’s put in and it was lovely to watch her this week!
