Thiem tumbles early in Sofia

Dominic Thiem was set for a busy couple of months on the tour which wouldn’t have been helped by a long run in Sofia this week as in all honesty and with respect out of the up-coming tournaments this one was probably low on priority and a surprise at his participation.

The Austrian who made ย it to the world tour finals last year will be hoping for a similar year on the tour but needs to pick tournaments more wisely so an early exit might just be a blessing in disguise with a few ATP 500 tournaments on the horizon as well as the Miami and Indian Wells double just around the corner.

Thiem was up against Nikoloz Basilasvili ranked at 87 in the world and was dispatched 6-4 6-4 in just under 80 minutes.

The same day saw local player Grigor Dimitrov come through a tough firstย match against former Wimbledon quarter finalist Jerzy Janowicz over three sets.
