Fasten your seatbelts, this will be spectacular! They hadn’t met in a Grand Slam final since 2009 and we didn’t think it would ever happen again but I have never been happier to be more wrong as Venus Williams and Serena Williams go head to head once again on one of the biggest stages in world tennis.
What they said:
After winning their respective semi-finals but ladies gave outstanding interviews showing their class once again
Venus – “Everyone has their moment in the sun, but I’d like to keep mine going. I have nothing else to do.”
Serena – “She’s my toughest opponent, no-ones beaten me as much as Venus has”
Tournament so far… Serena Williams
Serena came into this one with the feeling around it of something to prove after early exits in tournaments last year and this year in Brisbane but any question that has ever been asked of her she responds in a fashion only Serena Williams can. She has been incredible once again this tournament. Every challenge thrown in front of her she has come through she truly is the greatest and don’t write her off just yet!
Tournament so far… Venus Williams
I don’t really know where to begin. This woman is bloody brilliant! 8 years after her last Grand Slam final at the age of 36 she is back in the big time in Melbourne and you could see what it meant to her the celebration shows her passion and love for the game. What she has battled through throughout her career is incredible to be back at this stage once again is just what this sport is about. I’ve never seen anything like it before and she fights for everything and you won’t a tennis fan worldwide who didn’t get goose bumps watching Venus celebrate getting to another final!
I’m not going to sit here and pull it apart talking about strengths and weaknesses, both ladies deserve the place in the final and the fact we have another Venus v Serena final is just magical!
I’ve said this before and I will say it time and time again if you want an inspiration or a role model to look up to then look no further than these two…
