It’s amazing how time flies. Just under 18 months ago Johanna Konta was ranked about 150 in the world and had to qualify the hard way for the big tournaments now she’s one of the main players on the tour, she has people scared. Her consistency and hard-work is a incredible.
Jo in this last year 12 months or so has defeated Wozniacki, Venus, Aga, Petra, Vika, Halep and many more top 10 players now she faces her biggest challenge yet, Serena Williams.
This is a match-up I have wanted to see for a long time. Serena before the tournament hasn’t been at her best but has been so good these first 9 days. Seriously good and I don’t think she has gotten the credit she deserved after one journalist said her performance in the second round against Konta was ‘scrappy’ Hmmmm…. ok then!
Konta performed incredibly well against Wozniacki and I still feel at that stage where I’m still surprised how good she can play. The forehand and backhand were just perfect and something Wim Fissette said to Sky about her serve being so powerful on first and second serve reminds me of Serena.
The consistency is there from Konta and she can cause trouble for Serena who let’s be honest has been exceptional but hasn’t faced a tough challenge from a consistent performance yet this year and the last consistent performer you could say she ran into was Karolina Pliskova at the US Open and we know how that ended.
Toughest challenge yet but Konta can do it!
