Plot thickens as number ones fall in Melbourne!

Well, Melbourne is the gift that keeps on giving but for world number ones Andy Murray and Angelique Kerber their quest for the first Grand Slam of the season has come to an end.

Defending champion Angelique Kerber was knocked out in straight sets by the in-form Coco Vandeweghe who has come alive at majors recently including some very good results at Wimbledon especially these last few years but was in cruise control today as she took out the world number one to advance to the quarter finals.

Andy Murray a finalist 5 times in Melbourne will have to give it a go next year as he searches for his first Australian Open title after a four set defeat against Mischa Zverev who’s brother Alex lost to Nadal the day before. After some very comfortable first few matches this time the Brit ran into a very good serve and volley performance from the German which I will explore more in a later piece!

No Novak, Murray or Kerber. Opportunity is there, who will take it?
