New season, new start! Why Kyrgios can become Australia’s main man!

For 20 years Lleyton Hewitt was the main man for Australia at the Australian Open. The phrase ‘you cannot give more’ sums up his career perfectly. Fight and passion is what he played with and he never gave up.

Now there is no Hewitt on the tour and it’s time for another Australian to be the main man and I believe that man is Nick Kyrgios.

New season, new start.. Let’s forget what has happened in the past, we’ve all made mistakes and I’m sure he has regrets but you can’t judge a player on a couple of incidents and it’s unfair to forget what he achieved last year with a career high ranking and a first ATP 500 title.

I’ve always found the Australian Open as the fun Grand Slam. The crowd get behind it, players are relaxed and refreshed with the new season just beginning and with the support of the crowd I do see Nick going far in the tournament.

To finish 2016 ranked at 13 in the world is very good. Now it’s about setting new goals, he won his first ATP 500 title so now maybe going far in a Grand Slam or a Masters 1000 event will be high on his list but I would love to see him make the World Tour Finals in London that for me would be a dream to watch Nick play there!

The last male Australian winner of the Australian Open? Mark Edmondson in 1976.

Everyone wants to see a home player do well, watching Andy Murray do what he has done for British Tennis on home soil in the past has been remarkable and not many players get that opportunity to play for big prizes in front of a home crowd so it has to be cherished, just look below at match point v Andreas Seppi in 2015, I got goose bumps watching it and I believe Nick can be become Australian Tennis’ main man!
