2016 was on course to be Caroline Wozniacki’s worst season on the tour. The Dane went into Flushing Meadows on the back of a season dominated by injuries and poor results the former world number one went into final major of the year with a win/loss of 13/14 for the season and since then has won 20 of her last 23 matches on the tour winning two titles during this time but how has she turned it around?
If you watch her game these last couple of months it has that swagger back in it.
The way she patrols that baseline it’s difficult to break down and she makes the impossible possible at times which her shot selection. With her game being so instinctive at times she doesn’t always need to rely on having the momentum going her way to make big strides in matches, she is an impact player!
You know Wozniacki is dangerous when you see her give that look to her box of ‘I mean business’ and it’s that ruthlessness and character in her game which made her in my opinion the second best player on the tour during the second half of 2014.
Now the target is next year. The only good news to come out of a poor start to the year is there aren’t many points to defend. Whilst other top players are finding their rhythm for Wozniacki the start of the season can be seen as a free hit and I so want to see the Dane back at the top of the game challenging for majors where she belongs!
