Why missing Shanghai might just help Dominic Thiem in the long-run!

Dominic Thiem has had an action packed season. The Austrian has played at almost every tournament going this year and it looks like it may of caught up with him right before the Tour Finals in London which he is still in contention to qualify for but injury has forced him out of Shanghai.

Thiem’s scheduling this year has been hectic, just seems to play everywhere and after his injury issues in New York not long ago it looked like he may revise his scheduling for the rest of the year but he didn’t and maybe missing Shanghai this next week could be a blessing for him!

Thiem currently occupies the last space in London with Berdych just over 300 points behind him and he has to be hoping for an early exit from Berdych and Cilic to keep hold of that final spot whilst he missing the latest Masters 1000 event in Shanghai.

It does look like the Austrian is set to return to the tour when he returns home to Vienna in a couple of weeks time to play in the ATP 500 tournament there and the week after is the last Masters 1000 event of the year in Paris and then London!

It would be a big shame for Thiem if he didn’t qualify for London especially with the year he has had on the tour but playing every week on the calendar hasn’t helped and if he does miss out then it’s a big lesson learnt. Not many players finish the season with almost 60 wins to their name and not qualify for the World Tour Finals but it is a possibility…
