Dan Evans has history with the US Open, back in 2013 the Brit defeat Kei Nishikori and Bernard Tomic on his way to the third round before his defeat to Tommy Robredo now the British star is at it once again!
Dan began the year ranked down at 183 in the world and is now closing in on a place in the world’s top 50. He has really got his head down this year and is currently at a career high of 52 in the world on the live rankings but this could change before the end of the US Open.
Dan’s second round match was against the highly rated teenager Alexander Zverev who many believe will be the best of his generation in a couple of years’ time and for Dan to win impressively against the teenager who was seeded 27th for the tournament is very impressive.
With Andy Murray, Dan Evans and Kyle Edmund all in the third round of the US Open this gives Davis Cup captain Leon Smith a big headache of choices ahead of the Davis Cup tie against Argentina following the US Open.
This is the first time that three British male tennis players have been in the third round of the US Open since 1968 and round four is certainly a possibility for all!
