Ana Ivanovic’ disappointing Grand Slam run continues in New York

Winning the French Open back in 2008 seems a lifetime ago now for Ana Ivanovic as the Serbian who turns 29 later this year suffered yet another round one loss at a major her fourth in the last two years resulting in her worst year at the four Grand Slam events.

As a former world number one finishing the season with a win/loss record of 4/4 at the majors isn’t good enough. Looking at the statistics throughout the year it isn’t pretty good reading.

The Serbian is currently on a five match losing streak which includes her first round defeat in New York to Denisa Allertova and hasn’t won more than two matches in a row at one tournament throughout the season during the 16 events she has participated in.

Sadly I do think we may have seen the best of Ivanovic. It’s difficult to see her climbing the rankings once again and challenging the top level of the tour.

Right now there is a new challenge leading the women’s game with Muguruza, Kerber and Keys taking big strides on the tour and with Ana I just feel like we are going round in a circle with regular coaching changes there just doesn’t seem to be any consistency or continuity to try and get some rhythm going.

The great thing about the women’s tour is that it doesn’t wait for anyone, a few poor weeks or months and suddenly your rankings slips so much it’s tough to pick it back up again.

To go into the final months of the season with just four major wins all year is disappointing especially for a player of Ana’s quality and like I said the tour waits for no one and right now there is a lot of catching up to do.
