From Italy to New York for Laura Robson

Two weeks ago former British number one Laura Robson was about to jet off for a holiday with friends to Italy however that was short lived as she quickly found herself in New York after surprisingly receiving a wildcard into the qualifying for the US Open.

A wildcard into the US Open is a great opportunity and the 22 year old has taken it big time qualifying for the final major of the year.

I say time and time again that tennis is about taking an opportunity and Laura certainly did this.

Laura apparently landed in Italy at about 9 in the morning went to the Vesuvius and once she heard she’d received a wildcard into qualifying headed straight to airport on route to New York where she has now won 8 matches in a row in this time to qualify for US Open.

Laura is no stranger to the US Open where she stole the headlines in 2012 defeating Li Na and Kim Clijsters in the Belgium’s last every competitive match but injury has been a massive issue since for the former British number but it’s good to see Laura getting back on track and climbing the rankings again but getting back towards the top is a long road and standing in her way of round two of this year’s US Open is fellow Brit Naomi Broady.
