Why Andy Murray is the right choice to be the TeamGB Olympic Flag Bearer

Four years ago I heard something said by a former coach of Andy Murray’s Mark Petchy on Sky Sports as the British number one won his first Grand Slam title in New York and that was…

“history is made at the US Open”

It’s just six simple words but a phrase I will never forget and ever since Andy has gone on to make history time and time again winning three Grand Slams, multiple Masters titles, reached world number two and helped Great Britain win the Davis Cup last year and this is why he is the perfect person to be the flag bearer for Team GB at this summers Olympics which begin this weekend!

The British number one just seems to get better and better and there is so much more to achieve! After winning his third Grand Slam at Wimbledon this year you’d of expected him to rest up, have a holiday and celebrate but he joined up with the Davis Cup team in Belgrade and cheered them on from the sidelines all weekend!

Andy will be up against Victor Troicki in round one and will also be playing in the doubles where he will be teamed up with his brother Jamie Murray and you’d expect Andy to take part in the mixed doubles as well where he will team up with either Johanna Konta or Heather Watson.

One thing Andy does need to practice before the opening ceremony is the carrying of the flag…
