Simona Halep and Novak Djokovic could not have asked for better week before after their wins at the Rogers Cup in Montreal and Toronto respectively.
For Djokovic the title gets him back on track after that big surprising defeat to Sam Querrey at Wimbledon. Throughout the week in Montreal he did look sharp and in the final didn’t give Nishikori much to work with and despite throwing away an early lead in the second set the result and outcome was never in doubt.
With the withdrawal of Serena before the event the draw opened and two players who took advantage of this were Madison Keys and Simona Halep however in the final there sadly could only be one winner that being the Romanian Simona Halep who picked up her second title of the year with some excellent wins against Pliskova, Kuznetsova, Kerber and Keys on way to lifting the title.
Sadly we won’t be seeing Simona Halep at the Olympics this summer as she did recently announce her withdrawal from the tournament due to concerns over the Zika virus however we will be seeing the world number one Novak Djokovic as he aims for the big prize missing from his incredible trophy cabinet!
