Davis Cup Day 1 – Serbia 0-1 Great Britain

On Day 1 of the Davis Cup in Belgrade the main headlines were the rain and Kyle Edmund and it was the British number one for the tie who stole to the show with a three set win against former top 10 player Janko Tipsarevic to record his first Davis Cup singles win!

Kyle equitted himself really in the tie and settled quite quickly in the tie and kept himself ahead in the match and was causing problems for Tipsarevic who couldn’t deal with the forehand of the British player but Janko just couldn’t find the backhand up the line despite trying time and time again.

Quite incredibly the whole of the third set and the end of the second set was played in the rain which kept on coming down and down with Kyle dominating the third and final set to see of Tipsarevic at around about 9pm local time in Serbia to win 6-4 6-3 6-0 and give Great Britain a 1-0 lead after Day 1.

11am tomorrow morning see’s James Ward take on Dusan Lajovic which will be followed by Dom Inglot and Jamie Murray in the doubles match on Saturday afternoon.
