Well it wouldn’t be Roland Garros without a bit of rain however it literally didn’t stop today in Paris as only a handful of matches were completed on the first day of the second Grand Slam of the year.
Many matches were postponed, restarted and yes you guest it postponed again due to the weather conditions. Maybe a roof in the near future?
In the 10 matches completed on Day 1 there were victories for Petra Kvitova and Benoit Paire who had to fight to the distance to win their matches with Kvitova a few points from going out despite leading by a set and 3-1 against Kovinic. However Kvitova’s fellow Czech team mate Lucie Safarova sailed through the round two winning 6-0 6-2.
The main headlines of the day except for the rain was Nick Kyrgios who got in a bit of trouble for shouting TOWEL at the ball boy during the first set tie-breaker and wasn’t to impressed with the code violation given by the umpire.
Monday was meant to see Serena and Novak in action but they won’t now be in action until Tuesday with many matches to be completed including Nicole Gibbs against Great Britain’s Heather Watson with the American leading by a break in set three and up 40-30 on serve.
Fingers crossed for less rain and more tennis on Day 2!
