Serena Williams wins her 70th career singles title in Rome

It has been a surprisingly long wait but world number one Serena Williams after 9 months has won her first title on the WTA tour since defeating Simona Halep in Cincinnati back in August of last year.

The world number one saw off fellow American Madison Keys on his way to victory in Rome once again to win her 70th title on the tour.

This win is pressure off her shoulders to be able to go into Roland Garros with a title to her name is massive and in a week’s time the pressure will be back on her. Serena is world number and the defending champion at Roland Garros which brings expectations with have fallen a little short this year but I fully expect and hope to see the world number one lifting that trophy once again in a couple of weeks’ time.

Serena did have to face a top ten player throughout the week but a title win gives you confidence and in what has been a tough year so far winning Roland Garros would put that fear factor back. She’s still the best and will be force to reckon with in Paris over the next few weeks!
