Andy Murray thrashes Tomas Berdych in Madrid quarter finals!

After wins against Radek Stepanek and Gilles Simon this week standing in Andy Murray’s way of a place in the semi-finals of Madrid was Czech number one Tomas Berdych who Murray had never beaten on clay however this was to change as the British number one was pretty much in control from the first couple of games.

Something that he been exceptional from Murray all week has been the increased speed and effectiveness of his second serve which we saw in the opening game and then in the following game we saw him once again this week attack the second serve of his opponent and returned with interest and quickly went up a break in the set.

At this point the Brit was in control for the rest of the set with just one point dropped on his first serve in the set however was helped out at crucial times especially at 30-30 2-4 when he hit an overhead miles long which would have set up break point!

The opening stages of the second set were quite close however after the first four games the British number one ran away with it and never looked back reeling off four games in a row and secured the second break of the set for a 5-2 lead with another stunning drop shot catching Tomas Berdych off guard once again to serve for the match which he did with no trouble at all to win 6-3 6-2 to advance to the semi-finals of Madrid to play either Rafael Nadal or Joao Sousa.
