Victoria Azarenka completes the Indian Wells and Miami double!

Brisbane, Indian Wells and Miami. Victoria Azarenka has picked up her third title of the year and has also become a member of an illustrious club of players who have won the Indian Wells and Miami double in the same year. Kim Clijsters and Steffi Graf are the other two players who completed the double in the same calendar year.

The season has continued to go from strength to strength for the Belarusian who began the season ranked at 22 in the world and on Monday will be back at 5 in the world and is sat on an impressive win/loss of 22/1 for the season which is fantastic!

It’s so good to see Vika back at the top of the game after a torrid time with injuries. There was a little bit of a worry earlier on the in the year when she had to withdraw from Acapulco with a wrist injury but since then has gone unbeaten lifting the two biggest titles outside of the Grand Slams.

Vika’s game is right at the very top and I really wouldn’t rule out a challenge for world number one come the end of the season. Despite missing a bit of tennis over the last few years she still is only 26 and securing her 20th career title in Miami I believe is just a sign of more things to come for the former world number one who has now put her name at the top of the list for contenders at these big tournaments once again.

To defeat Konta, Muguruza, Kerber and Kuznetsova in one week is fantastic. All four have been playing some great tennis over the last few months or longer all of which without a set dropped looking composed and control throughout her time in Miami.

It’s get even better for Vika as she doesn’t have many points at all to defend in Madrid or Rome or even at Roland Garros where she made it to round three before being defeated by Serena Williams.

She has put her name back into the hat of contenders with her performances and results this year and with Madrid on the horizon a place where she has made the final twice before right now you’d have to say she is favourite!
