Johanna Konta cruises into Miami quarter finals!

On a day that has seen surprise defeats for Agnieszka Radwanska and Serena Williams the performance of the day came from Johanna Konta who dealt with the trickery of Monica Niculescu well in a convincing 6-2 6-2 win for the British number one who is getting closer and closer to breaking into the world’s top 20.

Niculescu’s backhand is one of the most unusual shots in tennis which isn’t a bad thing but Konta from the first point of the match didn’t let her settle at all. Everything about Konta’s game was exceptional I couldn’t pick out a fault.

The forehand pushed Monica wide allowing Jo to the net where she won an impressive 23/31 points during the match at the net. The backhand as well was solid as it has been all year. Jo did hit 32 winners to 30 errors as well which isn’t too bad her first serve percentage did drop to 46% and did seem to have issues closing out the match at 5-0 but got the job done.

For the second Premier Mandatory tournament of the year Konta has once again made the headlines and with surprise defeats for some of the top stars on the WTA tour already out an opportunity has arisen!
