Ana Ivanovic’ difficult year continues. The former French Open champion has lost in the third round of Indian Wells for the fourth year running after a pretty poor performance against Karolina Pliskova who has struggled this year but the Czech put in a solid performance to defeat the Serbian.
The first couple of games between the two were quite close and then Pliskova completely ran the show and reeled off 8 games in a row against Ivanovic who simply had no answer and wasn’t really helping herself out with just 2/18 points won behind her second serve in her first 6 service games!
It didn’t stop there. The Czech player has found some form in Indian Wells this week and wasn’t going to give anything away as Ivanovic failed at 0-4 to hold despite being 30-0 up on serve and Pliskova who served well and was strong off the ground continued to dominate to win the match 6-2 6-0 in less than 50 minutes winning 10 games in a row despite at one point them being level at 2-2 and Ivanovic 40-0 up on serve but failing to hold.
Plenty of positives for Pliskova but a worry for Ivanovic. She hasn’t got any momentum going yet this season and needs to find some over the next couple of months especially with big points to defend at Roland Garros in late May.
