Andy and Jamie Murray were once again at the heart of the victory for Great Britain as they advanced to the quarter finals of the Davis Cup after a 3-1 victory against Japan.
Andy began the tie with a straight sets win against Taro Daniel in what was his first match in a month after becoming a dad. In the second match on day 1 between Kei Nishikori and Dan Evans the Brit did give the world number six a run for his money but just couldn’t take his chances against a far from convincing Nishikori.
As usual Day 2 was doubles day and I was surprised to see Andy play the doubles match as I thought Dom and Jamie could win together but Andy and Jamie were solid as usual as Great Britain won in straight sets to give them an important 2-1 lead going into day 3.
Day 3 was the day of the big players for Great Britain and Japan. Andy Murray and Kei Nishikori both performed extremely well with Andy taking a two sets to love lead but the former US Open finalist fought back to two sets a piece but Andy had the final say and took the thriller in five sets to send Great Britain to the quarter finals against Novak Djokovic and Serbia later this year!
