Great Britain are through to the Fed Cup play-off on Saturday after another fantastic display by the team to seal the win against Georgia.
Once again Katie Swan was up first and well she was in full control of the match from start to finish as she won 6-3 6-3 against Ekaterine Gorgodze who is ranked about 200 places above her on the tour. Despite Katie being 4-1 up in the second set she did let Gorgodze back in it losing one of the breaks of serve but saw it through to claim the win.
Heather Watson was next up on court and sparred little time winning against Sofia Shapatava winning 6-2 6-0 against the Georgian to give Great Britain and unassailable 2-0 lead in the tie and with qualification to the play-off confirmed with the doubles match still to play!
Jocelyn Rae and Anna Smith for the second day running could have made it a full house but sadly it wasn’t meant to be as the Georgian pair took the doubles in straight sets which didn’t matter anyway as Great Britain progressed to Saturday’s play-off against Belgium!
