Despite recent Grand Slam heartbreak, Serena is still the best and the one to beat!

The last two Grand Slam tournaments have ended in heartbreak for Serena Williams. The semi-final loss to Roberta Vinci in New York was probably the biggest upset in tennis and then in Melbourne last week Angelique Kerber stunned the world number one in the final but despite this heartbreak in the major tournaments she’s still the very and the one to beat!

Incredibly after the loss to Kerber I started to see some people say this is the end for Serena which is simply ridiculous! Every player loses matches on the tour it happens week in week out and also to the very best in tennis but Serena losing in a Grand Slam event is magnified on a massive scale where there is a bit of an over-reaction. Whereas if Serena loses a match on the WTA tour there isn’t as much of an over-reaction but still it is a shock with Serena as the world number one.

I can’t see anyone on the tour right now or throughout the rest of the season getting close to her on a consistent basis. She still is the very best and the one to beat, there will be that extra pressure at Roland Garros and as ever the eyes of the tennis world will be on Serena however Roland Garros is a long way off with Serena’s next tournament set to be in Dubai on the 15th of February where I’m she will be at her very best once again!
