Despite defeat in Melbourne Vika is back!

I have to be honest when I woke up and saw Azarenka had lost I was pretty gutted. However despite defeat we have learnt one thing over these last few weeks and that is that Azarenka is back!

The performance of the tournament for me was her demolition job against Alison Van Uytvanck in the first round which she won 6-0 6-0 and prior to the tournament lifted the title in Brisbane. Alison isn’t a bad player at all and I was slightly shocked however I was pretty scared at how well Azarenka was playing it was a truly devastating performance by the former world number one.

I am somewhat surprised that she did lose to Kerber in the quarter finals but as I said Kerber’s run has gone under the radar a little and of course came from a set down in her first round match to now be in the semi-finals!

Right now I think one of tennis’ most competitive players is so close to being back to her best right now! She continues to climb the rankings and I’d expect more of the same over the coming months and should be back inside the top 8 in the world by the US Open in my opinion and get to Singapore!

I really hoped Vika would get to the final but it wasn’t meant to be but she has shown she is back and her performances in Brisbane and Melbourne have been top quality and I do hope that continues.

Melbourne may have ended in a loss this year for the two time former champion but Vika is back!
