Johanna Konta makes history in Melbourne!

British number one Johanna Konta has made history once again. She has become the first Brit since Jo Durie in 1984 to reach the quarter finals of a Grand Slam after an impressive and hard fought win against world number 24 Ekaterina Makarova in three sets taking the third set 8-6 to secure he place in her first Grand Slam quarter final.

Johanna’s rise has been incredible over the last 7/8 months. She has gone from being ranked at about 150 in the world to on the verge of breaking into the world’s top 30 in a week which has seen her defeat Venus Williams, Saisai Zheng, Denisa Allertova and Ekaterina Makarova.

Jo’s performance throughout the match was solid and composed especially to come from a set down against Makarova. She frustrated her and was solid off the backhand and forehand moving her opponent around the court to create openings.

Who knows what will happen next? The only way is up for Konta right now! The Brit will play either Madison Keys or in Shuai Zhang for a place in the semi-finals on Wednesday!
